Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 62 year old female in good health. I have a ganglion cyst on my right wrist which worsens when I am doing manual labor. My hand swells at night and itches and feels like pins and needles. I am unable to make a fist. It improves as the day progresses.
To reduce the swelling, you should avoid repetitive movement of the wrist or hand. Gentle massage may help some fluid out so that the ganglioncyst to reduces in size. You can take acetaminophen, one stat when needed. Warm compress will help to reduce the swelling.
Anyways, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP / surgeon. You may need to immobilize the joint, aspirate it or your treating doctor may recommend surgery to remove it completely.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
