Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have an artificial mitral valve since 2006. I have had no problems. Last week my pulse went crazy 135 was the high. Blood pressure is ok. Every time I go up the stairs or exert myself, it goes up. The doctor gave me digoxin but it is still high. What is wrong
abnormal pulses with prosthetic valve in mitral position will USUALLY cause an arrhythmia called atrial fibrillation, in which pulse will be very high and will be very irregular, digoxine is a very good drug, u will have to waite for some time for it to act fully when you will get some relief. even after 2-3 days if pulse doesent stabilize u should consult your doctor, repeat an echocardiograph to see the function of your valve, the size of your left atrium and if there is any clot in the atrium.
