How To Cure Runny Nose And Cough In A Child?

My son is 7 and has had a runny nose for about 2 weeks. Slight cough but nothing else. His nose inside is a bit red and irritated with crusty boogers on too of the red. He kept putting his fingers in his nose and I think that made it worse. What can I do to help get rid of it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

The symptoms are suggestive of common cold or upper respiratory tract infection.Steam inhalation,Warm liquids should be encouraged. Saline nasal drops can be used 3 to 4 times a day.It will reduce crusting inside the nasal cavity. If symptoms persist, antibiotic should be used following physician advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
