How To Cure Severe Chapped Lips Causing Pain ?

hello Doc, I am 29 years old, weighing 56 kg, vegan for past five years, though eat fish once or twice in a year due to craving , reason as to why I do not take animal protein is cause of allergy on my skin , used to get sever painful pimples that would give me acne afterwards so I decided to quit animal products extensively, I am in japan at the moment(I am from Africa and been living there), and its my first winter and at the moment am on my final menstrual day and my lips are peeling severely painfully and sometimes I cannot fold my lips without pain. This has been happening for close to four years now, it s very sever during cold weather and menstrual period, tried lip balm and Vaseline but things keep on getting worse!!!!! I am quite discouraged and in in severe pain, kindly help me where you can.Could I be lacking a nutrient in my body since I quit animal protein sources? At the moment my main protein source is soy milk and its products along with legumes.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that peeling and painful lips which are chapped seems to be due to a condition known as Exfoliative Chelitis..

Exfoliative Chelitis is a condition in which there is continuous peeling of the lips leading to appearance of dry, damaged and flaky lips..

It commonly occurs due to habit like lip biting, lip licking, lip sucking etc..
Other causes can be mouth breathing, bacterial and fungal infections..

As you are not confirmed that you have Exfoliative Chelitis or not you should consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can do a clinical evaluation and investigations like microscopic examination of scraping from the lips can help in diagnosis..

In case of Exfoliative Chelitis you can be advised to apply a thick coat of Petroleum jelly over the lips..
You can also apply beeswax containing lip balm frequently throughout the day..
You can also apply Tacrolimus and Marigold containing ointments..
You should avoid licking, sucking or biting the lips..
Drink plenty of water.

In case of Bacterial or Fungal infection antibiotics or antifungal medicines can be given accordingly...

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
