Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I m a worried mother of a 24 year old young man who won t take charge of his life and carries a part time job. He lives with my husband and I for right now. He enrolls in school for 2 classes and ends up dropping them. I ask him to talk but gets all upset and starts blaming me for the way he behaves. He threatens me that he is leaving and will live as a homeless. What do I do?
I went through your details. I can understand your feelings. You are a mother and naturally therefore you do have your own way of sympathetic thinking style for your children. But please remember, children are matured and are leading their own life. They know what they are doing and have their own ways of justifications. your advises and pleadings are intrusions in their individual life. They feel so. Over and above, your son is already upset, frustrated. In such a scenario, the advises will fall in deaf ears. Therefore I request you to be quite for some time and let them live their life. I am advising this way because, the more you advise him, the more you will be sidelined, and on that you will be more worried and more stressed. Please avoid it.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications. Good luck.
His behaviour like carelessness, dropping schools, getting angry over minor things, blaming you for everything etc could be occurring due to some mood disorder though evaluation is needed. Bipolar disorder with mania may present with anger outbursts and such individuals show abnormal projection to other people. I would advise you to take him to a psychiatrist for evaluation of his symptoms and treatment. Medicines like low dose anti psychotics and mood stabilisers help to recover from such symptoms and result in quick recovery. Drugs like low dose Olanzapine, Quetiapine, Sodium Valproate etc are used commonly. Visit a doctor for proper prescription.
I hope this helps you. Thanks, Take care
