Your gastritis can be because of infection by a bacteria named H.pylori. Upper gastro-intestinal endoscopy should be done to rule out the bacteria as a cause of your gastritis, if gastritis is not responding to Neksium and Mylanta.
It can be because of infection of intestinal mucosa with the bacteria. H. pylori bacteria burrow into the cells of the stomach lining and cause gastritis. H. pylori is the most common cause of gastric ulcers and gastritis. Ten percent of those infected with H. pylori may develop an ulcer. An untreated H. pylori infection may also progress into peptic ulcer disease or stomach cancer later in life.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
