How To Determine The Difference Of Medication Withdrawal Symptoms To Something Else?

how does a dr determine the difference of medication withdrawl symptoms to something else? I walked into my medication management person and she is already disturbed because I was 5-10minutes late. However, I can justify myself for that because right now time surpasses quicker than I can keep up. I mention my vertigo, lightheadedness, nausea, chills, lack of appetite, sleeping a lot, and overall strength fatigue. Not one concerned response, nor empathy of any. She just says, how do you know this is withdrawl symptoms your having? A duh, Ive missed a day or two of my medication easily before and that s what happens first; dizziness and lightheadedness feeling. However, now as I feel lack of security that she didn t taper me off the medication correctly I am experiencing more symptoms that I should have at all had, or having still. I feel belittled as I ve been on both sides of the bench...working at a clinic and a patient.

Hello,

Medication withdrawal symptoms commonly occur an hour after the person stops taking the medicine and may last for few weeks. Symptoms of withdrawal depend on what category of medicines are being taken. Medicines of anxiety, depression, abdominal cramps, contraceptives, antibiotics, etc., and the duration for which it is taken.

However, symptoms of the underlying health condition is not dependent on the medicine but occurs due to the pathology. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT, to rule out dizziness or light-headedness. Also maintain a blood pressure chart to confirm that you are not suffering from hypertension. If yes, get treated at the earliest.

Take food in time, do not skip meals to prevent hypoglycemia. Hypoglyaemia may cause dizziness. Your diagnosis will depend on the pathology detected. If you are diagnosed with underlying disease, you will be accordingly treated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
