Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a hard cyst in the lining of my cheek. It does hurt when you press on it. I didn t think it was growing but now I m not so sure. What are he chances its cancerous? I all ready have a form of cancer, amyloidosis and do have an appointment to have it biopsied but not until Sept. Needless to say, I m worried. Thank you.
I can understand your concern. The cyst like growth in the cheek area can be a tumor or growth of the major salivary gland, Parotid Gland. This gland is very common to grow tumors such as Pleomorphic Adenoma.
However, there are chances that it can be cancerous. There is no way to know if the growth is cancerous or non-cancerous (benign) based on the clinic examination and until the biopsy is performed. So unfortunately, you will have to wait until the biopsy is done and results are declared.
Many cases of growth of this salivary gland are treated by excision of the growth along with some part of the gland or entire gland. So even if it is cancerous, treatment is possible with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
