How To Diagnose Dementia?

I am biopolar schizoaffective, late onset around 58 years old. I asked my psychiatrist if I have dementia. My mom has Alzheimer s and she is 95. She told me that I can get a series of tests for dementia. I worked in the biotech industry for companies, such as, Genentech, Amgen and Bayer in Berkeley to name a few. You can be as specific and scientific as you think appropriate. Dennis Tajiri

Hi,

Doctors diagnose Alzheimer's and other types of dementia based on a careful medical history, a physical examination, laboratory tests, and the characteristic changes in thinking, day-to-day function and behavior associated with each type. Doctors can determine that a person has dementia with a high level of certainty.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Esmeralda Sera,
