How To Diagnose External Hemorrhoids While Having Discomfort In The Anal Area?

Hello, I believe my husband has external hemorrhoids. He has been dealing with this issue now for about 3 months. He has tried stool softness, pain medications, hemorrhoids creams and wipes. Currently using a donut to sit on. Yesterday he did some heavy lifting and now complains of pain around his waist area and hemorrhoid area. My husband doesn t have a current Doctor due to not having Heath insurance. He is 39 years old. And prefers to eat red meat even though I have been trying to get him to eat other proteins. And he doesn t eat fruits or vegetables. Also drinks Metamucil occasionally. Thoughts please?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your husband seem to be related to external hemorrhoids.

I suggest using an anti-hemorrhoid cream for local application such as Preparation H.

I also suggest eating a fiber-rich diet to avoid constipation.

If the symptoms continue, I recommend seeing a proctologist for further evaluation and specific treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
