Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had surgery on my big toe the end of july. Had toe nail removed. Anyways, it s still not healed. About 5 yrs ago I MRSA in that toe nail, hence the reason why I had to have it removed. I think it s definitely infected again and I think I have blood poisoning. I have a red line going fromantic my toe clear up to my ankle. Not feeling good at all. Started throwing up this morning and started running a low grade temp. Do I need to be concerned more tHan I already am? Should I take a picture and send it into you. My doctor doesn t seem to be concerned. I would be willing to bet my life that if you tested it for MRSA it would come back positive. It s still weeping also......it s been 3 month on October 27th. Can you please help or tell me what I should? I m 42 yrs old, don t smoke don t drink I ve been drug free for 7yrs. I had gastric bypass in 2002 and it s compromised my amun system. My email is YYYY@YYYY . Thank you

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, I understand your concern.I feel you are alrady concious about the healing of your wound & possibility of MRSA infection.. you only need to have a methodical approach to the problem.Your previous history supports the possible present infection with same bacterial strain. The fact that the wound not healed all these days .. two possibilities are to be considered . - Culture & sensitivity test of the wound scrapping/ swab test( as per your doctor's advise ) - To get blood sugar ( fasting / post meal ) tested to exclude/ diagnose diabetes. In case it' s+ve for diabetes, wound would not heal unless blkood sugar is control, with whatever treatment you take. * Consult your treating surgeon for specific treatment as per the result ALONG with overall body hygiene with.antibacterial body wash/ antibacterial creme for nasal mucus membrane & anti bacterial shampoo for hairs.. this will help in irradiating the staphylococcus.infection. Thanks..
