How To Discontinue BuSpar Without Any Withdrawal Symptoms?

what is the dose for tapering off Buspar? been on Buspar for 1 month and having bad side effects(numb extremities, profound stutter, increased anxiety, extreme dizziness, sensitivity to light and sound, to name the most prevalent ones). took 5mg Qam for 1 week, then 5mg BID for a week and a half, then 5 mgQam and 10mg QHS for 1 week. I am having such bad side effects I can barely function and I cant get ahold of my psychiatrist. I would like to stop taking Buspar but I don t know the tapering off dose. Does one taper off Buspar at the same rate you start taking and increase Buspar. I figured there needs to be titration but I don t know what it is. thank you.

Hello,

The Buspar (Buspirone) is an anti anxiety medicine used in variety of clinical disorders to control the symptoms. The withdrawal symptoms may be of varying amounts and severity depending upon the individual body responses. I would suggest following as guideline strategy for smooth withdrawal experience:
- 15 mg daily for a week
- 10 mg daily for next 2 weeks
- 5 mg daily for next 3 weeks
- 2.5 mg daily for next 4 weeks
- 2.5 mg on alternate day basis for next 2 weeks
- 2.5 mg twice a week for next 2 weeks
- 2.5 mg once a week for next 2 weeks

You will be off of Buspirone by know.
