Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I seen a surgeon today about an oblaison and he done a ekg. I am a fibbing and he recommended that I set up another appointment with my cardiologist and be put on a different med. I take flecainide and he told me to quit taking it since it is not working. Do I stop cold turkey . Is that safe.
Flecainide is a class Ic antiarrhythmic agent that is used in the prevention and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms or arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia etc. This medication should be taken in the dose and duration as directed by the prescribing doctor. Anybody should not stop taking this medication even his or her condition gets better.
If someone stops taking this medication suddenly, he or she will not experience any unpleasant side effects that is known as withdrawal syndrome, but the cardiac arrhythmia will no longer be being controlled. So anyone should not stop taking this medication without consulting the prescribing doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
