How To Get Control Over Thyroid?

Hello Doctor Could you help me,please. I don t know what to do. I have problem with my thyroid(low hormon level). TSH was around 14, the T3 and T4 was normal. My thyroid was 1,5 times bigger than a normal one. I started to take Euthyrox (German) last year.I took 50mg and it was a lot for me as the blood result indicated. Then I started to take a dose-37.5 and took it for almost a year.I checked the blood here in USA and the blood result was good.TSH-3.82 T4fee-1.00. As for a size of the thyroid I did not check it because don t have insuranse and can t affort this test. 1 month ago my Euthyrox run away and I bought in WalMart levothyroxin 50mcg tab.I have to cut it in order to get 37.5mcg. As soon as I started to take this pills I started to feel problem with stomach and now I feel like my thyroid becomes bigger.Yesterday I missed to take the pill and I felt any problem with swallowing. I don t know what to do, maybe I should stop to take it? May the diffrent brand of this medicine influence on my thyroid?I felt good with Euthyrox and I would like to take the same brand.I asked in WalMart about Euthyrox but they told I will not able to buy it in USA. What to do? I hope for your advice.I don t work and have no insurance.Looks like I have to fly to my country(Russia) to buy the medicine and check my thyroid because the medical service is not reachaBLE FOR ME..But I can t go right now.

Hello,

Levothyroxine is a medicine used for the treatment of Hypothyroidism. There are different brands of levothyroxine available. (like Euthyrox or Synthroid for e.g).

It is true that different brands of this medicine have a different influence on your body and it is possible that you may need different dosis to have normal TSH result with different brands.

As you mention, your maintenance dosis is 37,5 mcg Euthyrox. I want to underline that you should not stop taking thyroid medicine, it is vital for your body.

At the other side, it is very important to not change the dosis without talking with your treating doctor.

If you cannot find Euthyrox in your country and you do not prefer Levothyroxine, my advice is to ask the pharmacist for other brands of Levothyroxine.(Synthroid can be a possible solution).

I suggest repeating the TSH test 6 weeks after changing the brand of your thyroid medication because it can be necessary to adjust the dosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
