How To Get Cured Of The Lump Caused By Falling?

2 weeks ago, I fell and bruised my shin badly. I am 45 and slightly overweight. The bruise is about 4 inches in diameter. I also have a large bump. The bruise is yellow now and fading but the lump is still there. There is not a lot of pain unless I hit it. But it hurt when I swam yesterday. Should I be worried?

Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The swelling over shin is due to
: Blood and tissue fluid collection following injury

It usually resolves in 7-14 days or decrease significantly in size. As in your case, swelling is persistent even after 14 days, there are few possibilities

: Chronic hematoma - Sometimes blood is not absorbed and persist in degraded form. As colour of skin is getting normal and swelling is present, it might be collected blood. If there is decrease in size, you can wait for 4-5 days and see if it disappears. If still persist or becomes red/tender/warm or discharges pus, consult doctor for drainage.

For blood, you can
: Apply icepacks
: Take tablet Diclofenac sodium and Serratiopeptidase after proper prescription. Take it for 5 days only.

: Less commonly due to bony injury and swelling - If it is the reason, then you must be having severe pain. But you are not having severe pain, then it is unlikely.

: Chronic pus - It is more common if you are immunocompromised or diabetic. In such persons, blood gets easily infected and leads to pus formation. Such swelling must be treated as early as possible to avoid any systemic infection or sepsis. If you have such history, you must consult doctor as early as possible.

You can correlate your findings and consult doctor accordingly. Hope it will help you. Still in doubt, do let me know.

Thanks. Take care.

Hello
The lump is a hematoma--a collection of blood under the skin--and it isn't serious. It will get absorbed in time.

That said, since there's still tenderness there, you should have a doctor take a look at it and I would order skull x-rays to make sure you don't have a skull fracture
