Hi there and thanks for using HCM.
Even though you have just delivered a baby 2 months ago, you can be fertile almost immediately and conceive again. Conceiving right now could predispose yourself and the
pregnancy to health problems.
You have two options for emergency contraception; you could get a morning-after pill such as
levonorgestrel from the nearest drug store or clinic as soon as possible. It can be safely taken by women who are
breastfeeding. The pill is 95% effective when taken within 24 hours of unprotected sex and 85% effective when taken within 25-48 hours after unprotected sex. Side effects include abdominal cramping,
nausea,
headaches and sometimes light bleeding.
The other option would be to have an
intrauterine device (IUD) inserted by your regular doctor. The IUD can work as emergency contraception upto 5 days after sexual intercourse. It can also serve as an ongoing method of contraception - it is up to 99% effective in preventing pregnancies.
With regard to your menstrual cycle, it takes several months for ladies to have regular periods after delivery, especially if you are breastfeeding. Do not worry about your cycles - be sure to have a nutritious diet and your menstrual cycle should normalize over the next few months.
Hope this helps. Thanks
