Hi Dr. Samuel, I have a corn on my toe for 3 weeks and it was painful at one point! The pinky toe by the way, I have been soaking my feet in a foot bath for a week in epsom salt out of those three weeks. I also brought liquid corn and callus remover since using that my toe looks discolored and gray but less pain and the skin is peeling away.. Is the discoloring normal and does that mean the corn is going away. I can see the corn since the skin has peeled away. I do have an appointment with a podiatrist next month.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. As the skin around the corn is thick, it is darker in color. Pain relief is one of the important reasons for corn treatment alongwith reduction of friction which will prevent the corn from appearing again. Other than reducing it, there are treatment methods by applying keratolytics (substances which dissolve the affected skin layers) and by injecting fillers like fluid silicone. Using a good footwear or protective padding also helps in the prevention of corn. If the above methods do not work, electrocautery or debridement may be used. If there is involvement of deeper layers of skin and bone, surgery is the treatment of choice. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
