Hi, i do care for your concern.
tonsils is lymph gland, that try to mount the infection that usually occurs in the mouth.
these glands gets swells up following an infection.
These gland contain mostly debris of food particle, pathogens and immune cells.
these have rich supply of blood vessels.
this is the reason why you see fleshy material with blood tinged.
If i were your treating doctor then i would recommend.
1) To start on antibiotics such as cefexime along with antacid, for a full course of days, this would reduce the swelling.
2) Do not clean yourself as you may introduce more of pathogen and cause gland to swell more.
3) If this recurs greater than 3 times a year getting removed the tonsils is highly recommended.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
