How To Get Rid Of Under Arm Odor?

I have suddenly developed severe underarm body odour. I am 65 years old, and have never experienced this before. I have been washing under my arms with Phisohex, as directed by my doctor. He says then I shouldnt need deodorant. But if I dont use it, the smell is back within an hour. Any advice please
