Hello! Welcome to HCM!
First of all, you may have to continue with
vitamin B12 supplements for quite awhile. You are getting vitamin B12 shots right now and I would continue them per doctor's advice and then he should transition you to a pill supplement. A deficiency of B12 cannot be corrected by a
multivitamin. The correction of the B12 deficiency may help lower your lipids as the two have recently been shown to be indirectly related. A low B12 often preceeds signs of diabetes according to 2014 research.
Also, it is important that your folic acid be tested as treating a B12 deficiency without testing for and treating a
folic acid deficiency can be dangerous.
With statin medications I follow patients for their calcium intake, vitamin D,
magnesium. Avoid grapefruit and citrus. Supplement with 1 g
vitamin C per day per drug nutrient interaction with Atorva according to my clinical resource.
Designing a supplement regime may be complex and would require a full assessment, nutritional diagnosis and the development of a Personalized treatment plan. Also, if we can include foods instead of supplements, that is the preferable way to go.
Please do not design your own supplement plan as supplements can also interact and there are preferred times of the day for each one and some you can't take with others.
With your statin drug it is recommended to monitor for
muscle pain as it can deplete
Coenzyme Q10.
This is general advice. I recommend a full consult with a dietitian to let her help you design a meal plan. And, verify that you get your blood tested for folic acid. Good luck!Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
