Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How To Handle A Person Suffering From Bipolar Disorder And Anxiety?
A girl I am getting close with has told me (and shown me) that she has bipolar disorder and anxiety... I love her, I do not want to give up on her. I just need to know how to handle when she feels distant towards me - when she is clearly upset or in a depression and seems to take it out on me (unintentionally). Sometimes it really hurts my feelings and I don t know how to react. Please help.
I really appreciate you are seeking out help and taking measures to make things work between you two.
I am sorry though, there is no simple solution to your issue, but there are certain measures that you can do which will help you both:-
1. Talk to her about how you feel and how it affects you, when you have the best chance and she is in her most receptive status.
2. Listen to her and discuss her health issues, bipolar disorders are associated with stress, finding those stress factors and addressing them may minimize her mood swings.
3. Discuss with her about her health and is she on medication prescribed by an expert, whether she is taking those medicines regularly as advised.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
