Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Sibling rivalry is quite a common and could be due to jealousy, competition or fighting between brothers and sisters. It is quite difficult to handle and to correct it as it can take quite a long duration of time. The sibling bond is often complicated and is influenced by factors such as parental treatment. Parents can reduce the opportunity for rivalry by refusing to compare or typecast their children, discouraging competitiveness, planning fun family activities together, and making sure each child has enough time and space of their own. They need to give each child individual attention, encourage teamwork and avoid favoritism. Parents should teach their children emotional intelligence, problem solving skills, negotiation skills and encourage them to look for win-win solutions whenever situation demands. It should be kept in mind that sibling rivalry can be reduced, but may not to be totally eliminated. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
