How To Heal Needle Pain In Wrist While Giving Blood Sample?
I had blood drawn last week. As the phlebotomist stuck the needle in I felt a sharp pain like a knife going through my forearm. I told her and she took the needle out. Since then, if I move my wrist a certain way or stretch my hand a certain way I can feel that same cutting pain in my forearm. Last night, I turned my wrist one way and felt the pain and after that my arm has been tingling from the elbow down to fingertips. It has a dull ache as if it is about to fall asleep. What should I do?
Welcome to HCM and thank you for your query. The shooting pain along a nerve is suggestive of a neuropathy. It is may be that the needle would have pricked a nerve inadvertently or there may be another cause. It should normally heal with time. Some times we give neurotropic vitamins B!,B6,B12 with the hope that it would speed up the recovery even though there are no clear cut studies to prove. If the symptoms are very bad, gabapentin might help relieve the symptoms. If the symptoms persist a long time, you should get a nerve conduction study done. You are welcome to ask if you have further queries. Wish you a quick recovery Dr. Noble Zachariah
