Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I injured my ribs playing basketball over a year ago. I did not break my ribs but I had excruciating pain for over two weeks. After about two months when the pain finally went away, I started having problems breathing and this problem has not gone away. I feel like I can t breath in deep enough and I need just a bit more air to go in my lungs but it won t and I feel like I am suffocating. It doesn t happen all the time but it happens often and every day. I notice it happens more after I ve eaten and when I speak a lot. I can play sports without any problems whatsoever. I had a CT scan with IV done and everything looks normal. I also had an echo cardiogram done and everything seemed normal there as well. I also notice that after I eat a lot, and I have the breathing problem, there is a clicking in my sternum. I don t know if that helps explain anything. Any ideas????

How To Heal Rib Injury?
Hello, It may be due to blunt trauma to ribs. For further assessment you may require chest X Ray after orthopedician consultation. In case of fracture you may require rib 8 shaped belt after consultation. For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen. Restrict your movements. Do deep breathing exercises. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr Shyam Kale, Family and general physician
