How To Hydrate The Casting Which Is Used For A Wrist?
I broke my wrist weeks ago and needed surgery. I have had a cast on for 5 weeks now and today the skin on my fingers is extremely dry and breaking off in chunks. Is it normal and what can I do to try to hydrate it? The cast is fairly large (it covers half my fingers and goes to my elbow) so I d only be able to moisturize part of my finger. Would that even work?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Mukesh Chugh's Response
Hi Thanks for writing your query It is normal to have dry skin after cast. To minimise it you can apply moisturiser which you may be using on your face. I usually give cast up to the distal palmar crease (crease near to finger base) in case of wrist fracture. You may be having something more than a wrist fracture, just discuss with your doctor. Hope this information helps you. If the problem persists see a doctor. Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query. Regards Dr.chugh Orthopaedic surgeon http://bit.ly/drmchugh
