How To Identify The Symptoms Of Dementia In A Person Having Emphysema?

My father is 79 years old.He appears to have dementia, but I m not sure. He hasn t been talking as much as he used to. He gets a blank stare, but when we talk to him sometimes he answers and sometimes he shrugges his shoulders. He is having trouble walking now. He has emphysema and I was wondering if the lack of oxygen could be the cause of any of these symptoms.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello! Thank you for writing us here.
What I'm suspecting is Parkinson's disease where a person is quite inactive and shows symptoms like less interaction with people, dementia, expressionless face and altered speech.
You should visit a doctor to prescribe medicines for this. They're most likely to prescribe Levodopa to him.

Best regards,
Dr Gunjan
