Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a 17 year old son who is too lazy to find food in the house to feed himself, he doesn't want to do anything but stay in the house and play computer games. He is beyond lazy and any request for him to do chores is a chore in itself. He only eats a few types of food and has always refused anything he doesn't like. I am afraid that his lack of drive and motiviation will lead him to a residence under a bridge when he is older. I have seen this type of lazy unmotivated behavior sense he was about 1 year old.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Most of children at this age behave strangely and show laziness, remain busy in computer games, have particular choice of foods etc. These behaviours can be ignored if they don't hamper the functioning in school and dont affect studies. He is also showing lack of motivation and drive and in my opinion this needs proper evaluation. Mild depression, attention deficit disorders etc can cause similar complaints. Medicines like Amphetamines can be used to improve focus in such cases and help in improvement of functioning. Please take him to a psychiatrist to rule out these conditions.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
