How To Improve Muscle Movement In Lower Back And Shoulders Post Spinal Laminectomy?
six months ago I had cervical spinal laminectomy and fusion from C2 - T2. my rehabilitation process is going along well and I am gaining use back of my hand and fingers....which had almost completely atrophied due to the nerve compression. I am however suffering a slower rehab of the muscles in my upper back/shoulder area. I understand this healing process can take longer due to the extensive tissue damage that occurs. my lifting limits are at about 50 lbs currently; however I am expected to be able to lift 200 lbs by the end of june...according to my employer and insurance company. this is not realistic at this point with only 3 weeks to go. any suggestions
The rehabilitation process should be progressive and is not for a definitive and fixed period. It varies from person to person. If you are progressively gaining strength and improving then there is no need to worry. Even if it takes longer than expected then I don't see any reason to worry about. I would advise you not to worry about the time taken and continue your rehab program.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
