Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your question I would say that our height is determined by our genetic makeup and on the ability of the growth plates in our body which helps the bones to elongate, but the problem is that these growth plates are replaced by adult bones in late teens so after 20 there are virtually no growth plates left in our legs hence height can’t be increased except by surgery.
To be in the army surgical increase in height is not recommended at all moreover, even if I suppose that you have a growth plate still active even then you can’t let it multiply to increase up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) as the maximum growth rate is up to 1 mm per week.
So, under such circumstances, I would advise you to have your x-ray done for your knees to look for growth plate first only then you can try something to increase height.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Maryum
