Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was recently hospitalized after drinking that night and had to submit a blood sample. I am deathly afraid of needles which increased my heart rate significantly after being forced to take the exam. My troponin level read 0.49. Should I be alarmed or chalk it up to a bad night out?
Dear sir, Troponin is a protein found in muscles. Particularly, Troponin- C is found in heart muscles. A troponinc-c test , if positive is indicative of a damage to heart muscles, as seen in heart attack. A general troponin rise can be seen after any heavy exercise, alcohol drinking bout or in case of any muscle dystrophy or infection. Every test has reference values, without which this value of 0.49 is not interpretable. So kindly provide values. And dont not worry, unless you have any other symptoms of heart illness like chest pain, palpitations, sweating and shortness of breath etc.
Regards, Dr. Sonia
