How To Limit Palpitations And Atrial Chambers From Getting Any Larger?

Dr told me my atrial chambers are slightly larger. Scale he mentioned said 41. Upper limits of normal. I m having several palpitations a day. Currently on heart monitor. Blood pressure seems normal to slightly high 135-85. I have had palps off and on since my mid 20 s. I m 63. Exercise everyday. My question is what can I do to limit or control the palps and prevent the atrial chambers from getting any larger? I ve heard this condition can be reversed.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Enlargement of different areas of the heart most commonly occurs in response to heart failure, hypertension, congenital changes, vitamin deficiency, amylodosis, infection, thyroid disease, side effect of medication or treatment.

These are only some of the possible causes. IN most cases the changes cannot be reversed but can be controlled by treating the cause.

If the cause of the enlargement is known and treated then it is possible that you may have no further changes.

There are medications that can be used to treatment palpitations. Most belong to the beta blocker family of drugs eg atenolol, propanolol, bisoprolol, carvedilol, metoprolol

I hope this helps
