How To Overcome Depression And Alcohol Addiction?

Hi, My elder brother is in deep depression, he has locked himself in a room , do not eat anything, keeps taking alcohol 24/7, whatever little he eats he vomits it and has diarhea too Seems like his liver is damaged cause of excessive drinking. He denys to take any medication or to go doctor. He do not talk to any family member. he gets irritate and angry if we try to talk to him. Its been 6months he has locked himself in a room. He only goes out to get alcohol. He is not working, not earning. Please, please help me with a solution.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query your elder brother have symptoms of depression and alcohol addiction. Need not to worry. I would suggest you not to ignore these symptoms and these should be dealt by a psychiatrist in a proper way.

- You should start with SSRIs such as Sertraline, Paroxetine, Fluoxetine etc.

- Try to engage him in activities of his own interest.

- Cognitive therapy is very good for him. Once he will be out of this focus can be on alcohol de addiction.

- Give him grape juices.

- Keep a no alcohol at home or at work as it will act as temptations around.

Visit psychiatrist once and get complete examination done.
