How To Overcome The Problem Of Hyper Pigmentation On My Forehead And Cheeks?

My problem is hyperpigmentation mainly on my forehead and slightly on my cheeks . Right now iAm using a cream called meladerm since almost 2 months. It worked in the begining, the pigmentation had reduced but I happened to bleach my face once and the pigmentation was back with a vengeance, darker and more prominent. I use neutrogena microdermabrasion kit once a week to scrub my face. But the pigmentation remains...... IAm toying with the idea of a glycolic home peel..... Pls suggest

Hi,

I can understand your concern for the problem of hyper-pigmentation. The most important thing is sun protection by all measures. Eat healthy diet containing lot of Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Do not try applying over the counter products as these can further aggravate the situation. Protect yourself form direct sunlight. Use a good sunscreen on exposed area for 2-3 times and drink plenty of liquids everyday.

The treatment is by lightening agents such as Kojic acid or azelaic acid cream application which you can use under dermatological guidance. Hydroquinone can also be used but in my series of patients I prefer using Kojic acid or azelaic acid cream.

Do not use scrub as it can harm your skin. Just check out whether Meladerm contains hydroquinone, steroid and tretinoin. The cream is good but shouldn't be used without a dermatologist's prescription. On its prolonged use it can cause thinning skin with red irritated skin or even hair growth.

All the best.
