Hello, my name is heather and i am currently on Methimozole I am bruising a lot for no reason I asked my doctor and he informed me that it should not be caused from the medicine, but I read about it and it shows it does. I don t know what to think or do I have never bruised this much and if he tells me that I don t know if I want to go back to him. If i am bruising can it be caused from the medicine what happens if my doctor don t do nothing about it. He only wants me to be tested every 4 months for blood work and that is not tell aug. ..
You need to take an alternate effective but a safer medication for hyperthyroidism.
After having gone through your history I am of the opinion that the bruising appears to be due to thrombocytopenia (low blood platelet count).
Platelets stop bleeding by clumping and forming plugs in blood vessel injuries.
When your blood has too few platelets, mild to serious bleeding can occur. Bleeding can occur inside your body (internal bleeding) or underneath your skin or from the surface of your skin (external bleeding like bruising).
I advise you to stop taking methimazole immediately and consult an endocrinologist for further evaluation and an alternate effective but a safer medication for the treatment of hyperthyroidism.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
