my ex husband has suffered two strokes within 3 days, but thankfully doesn't seem to have any side effects. One of his caratid arteries is 100% blocked and the other is 10% blocked. He is in the hospital. What can they do to prevent these strokes from happening again?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
The answer is simple. Surgery should be done if there is more than 70% blockage of carotid artery and especially if there is 100%. It cant be deblocked on other ways but surgery and there are no edications for it. Medications can only prevent further growing of atherosclerotic plaque but when it has already developed than it must be surgically treated.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health. DR. Ivan Rommstein
