How To Prevent Child From Eating Rocks?

I work in a child care center and I have two year old that likes to eat rocks ,basically anything he can get his hands on. We have to constantly keep an eye on him. His parents says he passes the rocks in his stool. It really scares them because it makes his stomach hurt. He rather eat rocks and other things than his food. As a child care worker what can we do to help prevent him from consuming these thing? What can happen to him, his health if he continues?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for asking
I can understand your concerns
I would suggest you get the child assessed for sensory processing disorder. He may be hyposensitive in the mouth region and so may need to put things in the mouth. If so he may benefit with the oro motor program.
Putting non edible things in the mouth may pose health hazard to him in form of infections or sometimes may cause intestinal obstruction.
I hope I have helped you
Thank you
