How To Recovery After Gastrocnemius Recession To Relieve The Pain In Heels?
My foot doctor recommends that I have gastrocnemius recession done to relieve the pain in both of my heels. I would like some information on the recovery. I work full time and have very little vacation time. I have read that I would have to be in a walking boot for 2 to 4 weeks. I would appreciate any information you could provide.
Hi I assume that your doctor has recommended a gastrocnemius recession based on heel pain WITHOUT EXCESSIVE BONE GROWTHS. I would assume this to be a fair assessment.Since the tendons at the back of your heel and leg are tight in retro-calcaneal tendinitis, recession of the gastrocnemius, releases the tightness and hopefully reducing your pain in the process. You will require a minimum of 2 weeks in plaster and a further 2 weeks in a walking boot. However if you have a fairly large bony growth on the back of the heel you will require bony resection and reattachment with bone anchors.
Hope this helps
