I had blood test and it reported G-GTP to be 103 and my companys doctor asked me to visit. I have been drinking on daily basis but in low quantity and healthy liquor called Japanese shochu which is easy to break down in impression that it will never damage my liver. can you tell me whether it possible to bring my G-GTP down to 50 very soon if I donot drink at all and eat vegetable and fruit diet. I have around 24 days to visit doctor.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) is an inducible liver enzyme. It is induced primarily by alcohol intake. Elevated levels of it is indicative of toxic liver damage caused due to consumption of alcohol. Since you are habituated for consuming alcohol, it is essential that you should stop consuming it completely so as to prevent any further damage to the liver and its complications. Also, you can supplement orally with lipotrophic factor medications like Choline, Betaine, Inositol and antioxidant medications like Vitamin E and Selenium to keep the liver tissue healthy. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
