General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,,

Your symptom may be indicative of sciatica. Sciatica, is pain that comes from the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is usually caused by a herniated disk, bone spur, or spinal stenosis. Other medical conditions that can cause such symptoms are gluteus medius tear, pinched nerve, nerve damage, peripheral neuropathy, etc.

The pain from sciatica is often a sharp, shooting pain that radiates down your leg but the pain from a gluteus medius tear is often a dull, aching pain that radiates from your hip to your leg. Piriformis syndrome may present with numbness, can result from a herniation of the discs.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get X-ray, CT/MRI, EMG done to detect the pathology causing you symptoms. You will be accordingly treated. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected. It is treated with anti inflammatory medications, corticosteroids (if needed), opioids (if needed). Get connected to a Physical therapist.

Under the observation of a Physical therapist you can do exercises to correct posture, strengthen the core and improve range of motion. Depending on the response to treatment your treating doctor will give you steroid injections or suggest surgery. He may refer you to a Neurologist for Nerve conduction velocity test and further management of your ailment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
