How To Reduce Pain In Ear And Throat When Diagnosed With Laryngitis?
What can be the problem with someone with severe ear pains? She has the beginning of a cold and has been exposed to a grandchild with a bad cold. Her throat began hurting late last night and has now developed into a laryngitis pr oblem too. She takes a variety of medications for other problems. Every time she attempts a cough, her ears have terrible pains. What can be done for relief? Thank you.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain in ear and throat along with laryngitis , which starts with cold . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query . The symptoms you mention in query probably occur due to viral infection . Sometimes when upper respiratory track infection specially when left untreated spread to surroundings and infect larynx and also spread to ear through eustachian tube . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis. Doctor may also diagnose ear with otoscope . Doctor may prescribe antiviral or antibacterial drugs depending upon the diagnosis along with anti inflammatory or decongestants . For now do warm saline gargles several times a day .Keep your ear dry, take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and apply hot dry compresses to external ear .
