Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I Have a friend who is hooked on pain pills. He says it s to help his cancer, but it puts him in a zombie like state. Most of the time he seems okay, but he doses off quite often. I have a feeling that he is addicted, and sometimes I can t answer him because I have no experience in that area. He is also on Methadone. Sometimes his mood swings are intense. How can I best help him to ween off Methhadone?
If your friend is on methadone, he probably is taking the opioid pain pills without informing his doctor. If he wishes to stop methadone, he will need to gradually taper off methadone, doing it slowly over months. But no change should be made without discussing with his doctor.
Best wishes.
