How To Reduce Weight Inspite Of Being On Arpizol For Bipolar?

My daughter is treated for Bipolar. She is under treatment since 2007. For the past 4 years she is taking only half the table of arpizol 10 mg. Right from the beginning the doctor prescsribed the same tablet in different dozage. Now that she is 34 years with a weight of 101kg. She is not in a position to consentrate in any work because of the weight. Her appetite is more than normal and eating erratically. Please how to reduce weight.

I can understand your concern. Arpizole or Aripiprazole is an antipsychotic drug also used in bipolar disorder. The drug is one of antipsychotic drugs which are relatively safer in terms of metabolic side effects. She is on 5-10 mg per day and even with this her weight is increasing and she is not feeling right. In such case one another drug like Topiramate can be utilised. Topiramate is known to cause weight loss and is one of good mood stabiliser drug. When the drug is given to any patient it helps in reducing the weight and also help in mood stabilisation. You can keep this drug as an option for her and can consult her psychiatrist for prescription.
