Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am trying to get advise regarding an extra tooth that my 11 year old daughter has.its above her two front teeth, just below her nose.you cant see it without the xrays. the oral surgeon said he can mostlikely get it from the front, but may also have to cut into the back of her teeth (mouth). he also wants me to order a retainer type thing from the regular dentist for after surgery.I am wondering if it is actually necessary to have this tooth removed? we are looking to put her in baces and that is how we found this.I have Aetna PPO dental and insurance wont even cover half of the things they are wanting us to do. please give your expert opinion, thank you.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that your daughter has a supernumerary tooth and it has no role in any of the oro dental functions and it will however look cosmetically unpleasant only.. It can also cause gap between the front teeth.. Extraction is appropriate treatment and you are advised correctly.. You are advised to put retainers just for the reason that there must be some gaping in teeth or will become apparent after extraction.. So the treatment advised seems fine..
You can however send me Images of her teeth and can do a detailed discussion by asking a direct question by going to my profile on Healthcare Magic..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
