How To Remove Small Piece Of IUD Embedded In Uterine Wall?

A small piece of my IUD is embedded in the uterine wall. How safe is it to leave it there and for how long? The rest of the IUD has already been taken out. My doctor says the only way to remove the piece is by removing the whole uterus or waiting and see if the piece shifts on its own during a few periods to be taken out through laparascopy.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
An impacted piece of IUD is likely to shift during menstrual cycles.
Your gynecologist is right in waiting for the piece to shift during menstrual cycles.
Since, the IUDs are sterile, there is very little chance of complications like infection, etc.
Thus, wait for few menstrual cycles and follow up the IUD in uterine cavity with regular ultrasounds.

Thanks and take care
