Hi,
Noted your short history of rotten egg burps since the age of 5 and you are now 44, tried many things but no relief.
The commonest causes are as follows:
- Partial obstruction at the level of duodenum or jejunum.
- Lax lower esophageal sphincter.
- GERD.
- Any other as may be found out by further evaluation and investigations.
I would advise you the following in such a case:
- Upper GI Endoscopy.
- Barium studies for oesophagus stomach, duodenum and follow through for
small intestine.
- CT scan of abdomen to see for annular pancreas and other things.
-
Consult a Gastroenterologist and surgical Gastroenterologist for
second opinion and further evaluation, examination and investigations.
If the cause is surgical then you may need corrective surgery for say,
Hiatus hernia, Lax lower esophageal sphincter, annular pancreas.
Medical management with pro-kinetic like Domperidone or
Metoclopramide.
Small frequent meals.
Not to sleep immediately after food.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
