How To Strengthen Ruptured Long Head Biceps?

Is there any thing i can do to strengthen my ruptured long head biceps? It was not repaired in surgery 8 months ago. My labrum was resected and superspinatis fixed along with acromium decompression. Shoulder doing better than bicep. It cramps up quite a bit under little stress.

Hello,

Conservative management of long head of biceps rupture take 4-6 weeks on average. Treatment consists of:
1) Mobilization and flexibility exercises to improve the shoulder ROM. Followed by strength and stretching exercises. The muscle will also be static trained.
2) Exercises planned to rehabilitate the shoulder should involve low level elevation, which can increase the BBLH (biceps brachial is long head) dynamic role in stabilizing the joint when elevated to 30° or less.
3) Treatment can be divided into phases
phase 1: week 0-2
Home exercise program
Ross arm stretch
Sleeper stretch
Early capsular strengthening
Passive ROM, full passive flexion and extension of elbow, probation and supination of forearm, full passive shoulder ROMp
Phase 2
Early strengthening exercises of rotator cuff with teraband.
Internal and external rotation in 30 degrees abduction
Low rows and ceiling punch
Full active elbow, forearm and shoulder exercises.
Phase 3 or advanced strengthening exercises
Theraband exercises
Bear hug, reverse fly
Internal and external rotation
Push up progression
Biceps curls
Weight training
You can just consult a physical therapist and get to know all the above mentioned exercises.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
