How To Test If A Child Is Having Compartment Syndrome In Left Forearm?
My son was told by a physical therapist that he has compartment syndrome in his left forearm. Although this has been around for 5 months, we just received the news. 3 doctors mis-diagnosed this. First, will he need the pressure test? We are having difficultys locating Doctors who specializes in this. I have many more question, but not much time. Thank you.
Don't take so much stress. I can understand your concern. A good doctor can diagnosed a case of compartment syndrome with symptoms and physical examination but A definite diagnosis of compartment syndrome requires direct measurement of pressures inside the body compartment. To do this, a doctor can insert a needle into the area of suspected compartment syndrome while an attached pressure monitor records the pressure.
It can be treated by avoiding the activity that caused it and with stretching and physical therapy exercises. Surgery is not as urgent in chronic compartment syndrome, but it may be required to relieve pressure.
Ask again if still in doubt.
