hi my nephew just broke his fibula while playing football he is due to go on a long haul flight from australia to london in less than three weeks.. Dr has told him he may need an op but wont know until swelling has went down..can you tell us if he will be able to fly thanks
Hi, If the fracture is within 7.5 cm from from ankle joint , then it is ideal to go for SURGERY ( to maintain the length of leg and to prevent valgus angulation.
If the fracture is more proximal , then immobilization with POP slab/ cast is adviced.
Flying is not at all a problem from the medical point of view.
