How To Treat A Ganglion Cyst On Left Thumb Leading To Severe Pain?

I have a ganglion cyst off of my left thumb which has been extremely painful for six years. The hand surgeon say it is not operable is it is so close to the median nerve. We recently moved from Pennsylvania to Florida and it seems worse. Will the high humidity or low Altitude or frequent barometric changes in drops aggravate it? What can I do to relieve the pain? I have tried everything out there.

Hello and welcome.

Advising pain management medications makes no sense as the pain is going to last as long as the cyst is present. I can understand how surgery can be difficult with the median nerve being so close but some experienced surgeons can go about the surgery for you.

If no one is ready for this then I would recommend aspiration of the fluid from the cyst, and injection steroids. After this procedure the wrist should be splinted, if this is done 2-4 times then there is a chance that you can get complete relief from the recurrence of the cyst. Speak to your doctor about this option.
