Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How To Treat A Heart Attack Survivor With 10% Heart Function?
My friend s husband had a heart attach and was without oxygen to his brain for eight minutes (He also had a stroke while he was being revived). He has short term memory loss, speech problems and mobility problems. His heart is also only operating at 10%. He is leaving the hospital in two days, without oxygen, only a vest defibrillator (he is not strong enough to have the implantable defibrillator put in), and no home healthcare. How worried should my friend be about leaving her husband, for even a few hours alone a day?
With a history of reduced heart function, there would be reduced blood supply to different organs including the brain which may affect his ability to think and reason. His mobility may also cause a problem if he needs to change his location at home eg: go to the bathroom. His ability to function on his own would need to be assessed.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
